Welcome Buggy!
Welcome Buggy into the Olson-Hinman home! I have been wanting a bug for a while now and finally pulled the trigger. Going to use this site to document how I will restore this little guy hopefully into a sleek, styling, smooth machine.
BUGGY'S ORIGIN STORY:
I've been reaching out online (mostly Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist) to find a bug that would fit me. It seems there are either fully remodeled bugs out there ranging from $15K - 33K which look beautiful, or there are junkers which range from ones without motors ($2K) to bugs that need work ($11K).
I made a few contacts, most notably Haley Harnish who works for Harnish Motors. She had a little VW that looked like Herbie the Love Bug. They wanted $6,000 for it. It looked in really bad shape, so we passed on it, but made a friend in the process. Haley loves all things bug and VW Bus. She collects them and has some sweet models in her shop. Her passion really excited me about eventually getting a bug of my own.
Advice: Do Your Research:
Most of you who know me know that I am impetuous (and wildly fun for those who can handle it :). I looked at three different bugs before settling on Buggy. I thought I had made another friend, but it turns out the guy who sold me Buggy was a bit of a scammer. Correction: Big Scammer. I found out later he had purchased the bug for $5,200. He wanted to charge $8,200. However, he lied to me about a hole in the floor, took out the new battery, took the radio plate cover off to sell another car after agreeing to sell the car to me "drive-away".
But Haley had an excellent perspective: "Even if the money exchange wasn't ideal, you can never put a price on a VW that calls to you!" Awesome. This bug called to me and I'm so happy I have it.
